Open source peer-to-peer digital currency

Dogecoin (DOGE)

Dogecoin is an open-source, peer-to-peer digital currency.

Dogecoin is also considered a Layer 1 blockchain. It is a standalone blockchain with its own network, consensus mechanism (Proof of Work), and native cryptocurrency (DOGE). While Dogecoin was initially created as a meme coin, it has evolved into a functional blockchain used for transactions, tipping, and even as a payment method in some cases.

Unlike more complex Layer 1 blockchains like Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain, Dogecoin does not support smart contracts or decentralized applications (dApps). However, it still qualifies as a Layer 1 blockchain because it operates independently and maintains its own ledger and network infrastructure.
